Day 19: Student Reflection @teachthought #reflectiveteacher
Name three powerful __________ students can reflect on their learning, then discuss closely the one you use most often.
It seems that this prompt is missing a word, so I’m filling in the blank with: “ways”
1. Reflection through writing: The simplest and, I think, best method I use for reflection is to simply have students take out a piece of paper and a pen and write responses to my questions in class. Everyone pays attention and writes something, so there is no tuning out.
2. Discussion: I like to let students converse with one another. I think that conversational reflection is a powerful tool. A silent classroom is a dying classroom.
3. Online Discussion: I used to do this more often, but I still find that online forums have a valuable place in the classroom. They create a third space for students to converse in. I have found that students who are unlikely to engage in classroom discussions will more likely share their ideas online.
