What do you think is the most challenging issue in education today?

The battle for classroom time vs. standards seems to be the war we are waging. How much testing is too much testing?

My biggest issue with education is the lack of professional courtesy given to teachers. We are professionals. We should be the ones who determine if our students are learning or not. The system is backwards. The tests should reflect what I already know about my students rather than revealing some new truth that is surprising.

In other words, why am I relying on a silly standardized test to tell me how my students are doing when I spend time with them and read their work and listen to their responses? I am the expert. We are the experts. It’s time to take back the classroom and the system.
